My Teaching Philosophy

English education is a symbiotic relationship between the teacher and the learner.
We all learn from each other. It enriches both our lives.
I teach what the learners say they want/need to learn.
I do not impose my ideas of right or wrong on the learners who seek help.
Reuben's Vow1. The English language belongs to human beings.
2. The English language makes life easier in some countries including New Zealand.
3. Learning English, or any language, is everybody's right.
4. No individual or institution owns the English language.

My Background

Japanese
I began studying Japanese at age 12 and went on multiple school exchanges and holidays to Japan. I later completed a BA, worked on subtitling projects for AWS Japan and Microsoft Japan, and continue using Japanese daily.
Te Reo Māori
I studied Te Reo for four years at high school, competed in Manu Kōrero Tasman/Marlborough Regional Speech Competitions, and attended wānanga and noho marae at Omaka, Waikawa and Takahanga Maraes, respectfully. I later completed a BA in Te Reo Māori focused on language revitalisation and communication.
Teaching English as a Second Language
I completed my CELTA at Ara and have contributed to English language education at LSNZ and Christchurch City College using my responsive input based framework. I now operate RL Tutoring, where I teach English through clear input, structured lessons, and real communication practice.
